Dream Title: Visit and Cross the Golden Gate Bridge

Cross the Golden Gate Bridge

San Francisco’s number 1 attraction carries cars traveling on Highway 101 with 6 lanes of traffic. The bridge is 4200 feet long on the longest span and 8981 feet total length. The bridge sits 260 feet above the water. There is a toll into San Francisco, $5.00 a car.

The Golden Gate Bridge is one of the most beautiful bridges in the world and garners more than 9 million visitors a year. Despite strong currents, deep, cold water and blinding fog the bridge was built with amazing fortitude and skill. It opened in 1937.

You may also bike or walk across the bridge—plan a 1.7 mile hike.

The weather is generally mild year round, averaging about 40 degrees in the winter and 75 in summer. The famous fog usually burns off by noon.

The best time to visit is in May to June or September to October.

Called the Golden Gate, it is not yellow gold in color and not the red it sometimes appears to be in photographs. It is orange. The official color is international orange.
